German Historical Museum (Deutsches Historiches Museum) Berlin

Covering the last 1500 years of Germany's history, this extensive museum's exhibits portray the political figures and events which shaped Germany and Europe. The Permanent Exhibition chronicles the Middle Ages to the end of the 1st World War, the Weimar Republic , the 2nd World War, post-war divided Germany through to reunification.

In addition to the Permanent Exhibition, the museum has a number of Special Exhibitions, which run for specific periods of time, and deal with particular themes.

The magnificent museum building itself is worth looking at in addition to its contents. Visitors could easily spend a half-day to a full day visiting this museum there is so much to see. Due to the fact that the museum houses original and unique artifacts, many of the exhibits are behind glass. This museum is less "hands on" and interactive than other museums in Berlin. So visitors with young children may risk the children getting bored after a while and may wish to prioritize what they want to see and include exhibits which the children will be interested in.
