Kilkenny Castle
Kilkenny Castle was initially built over 800 years ago, with additions and alterations performed since then. It is strategically located at a crossing point on the river Nore. Much restoration work has taken place over the last 100 years, and it is the major tourist attraction in the region. Its grounds and gardens are great for walking or just taking pictures, plus there is a children's playground. -
Jerpoint Park
The location of the deserted 12th century town name Newtown Jerpoint. This was a thriving time in the middle ages as pilgrims came to Jerpoint Abbey and to visit the tomb effigy of Saint Nicholas, Bishop of Myra. -
St Canice's Cathedral and Round Tower, Kilkenny
Named after St Canice, who lived during the 6th century, and after whom the city of Kilkenny gets its name (Cill Chainnigh = church of Canice) St Canice's Cathedral was built during the 1250s. The Round Tower, which can be climbed, offers a spectacular view of Kilkenny and the surrounding countryside.
